Line Time

Another pretty easy time/moeny/earth saver is all about your clothes dryer. SO much energy wasted there. "Electric dryers use five to ten percent of residential energy."

There's a whole site dedicated to this: Project Laundry List. It has places to buy line-drying gear and detergents and stuff. Also all the reasons why its a GREAT idea. Check it out

5 Reasons to Line Dry your Clothes

1. Clothes last longer.
2. Clothes and sheets smell better.
3. Save energy, thus preventing pollution.
4. Save money.
5. You get some exercise and can do this activity outside.

Also check out Consumer Reports "Greener Choices" which includes this note:

"Hang it up. Clotheslines aren't just a bit of backyard nostalgia. They really work, given a stretch of decent weather. You spare the energy a dryer would use, and your clothes will smell as fresh as all outdoors without the perfumes in fabric softeners and dryer sheets. You'll also get more useful life out of clothes dried on indoor or outdoor clotheslines--after all, dryer lint is nothing but your wardrobe in the process of wearing out."

I didn't want to do an actual LINE, so I just went to Target and got a $20 wooden rack. It's so easy and humidifies your house too!

Here's another idea if you're worried about the quality of the clothes (not wanting wrinkles or whatever) - Tips on line drying clothing - an example...

"To hang towels, you will need to fold either one third or double over the line. Shake them really well, this restores the softness and fluffiness and never hang by the corners and you'll get permanent indentations on them and they will never look pretty again."

Try it out! Even if its just drying your hand towels over the bathroom door. It makes a difference for SURE!

Yeah! I'm doing an Earth Day Fair booth about clothesline drying simply because it's such a foreign concept to most people. How did this happen?!! I'm glad to see somebody under 50 is doing it, and thanks for spreading the word.
